THE UNDERGROUND PROJECT is a New York City/Berlin-based art project that aims to bring people together to investigate human behavior in the underground transit systems of cities around the world. Using video created from still photography as our medium, the project strives to capture the chaotic interactions and intimate moments of anonymous individuals who all share the same immediate goal: catching the next train.

In "The Thing" an unidentifiable thing is found and sent to Berlin where it becomes the central player in a tale that takes a literal thing from a humble background and transforms it and, in fact, catapults it to a higher meaning with a cynicism and theory, By creating this new superstar, "The Thing" also explores the notion of how the focus of art has shifted from physical craft to intellectual interpretation. We finally come to a place where materiality and presence are lost to the abstract.

"Vielfalt erwünscht"

Hier gibt es viele Wesen. Beim ersten Hinsehen ähneln sie sich in ihrer Beschaffenheit. Sie gehören zusammen. Sie verbinden und vermehren sich. Einige Merkmale sind bei allen gleich. Einiges ist anders, unterscheidbar, stärker und schwächer. Manche Kombinationen wiederholen sich. Auch unterscheiden sich die Wesen in ihrer Grösse, ja auch in ihrer Stärke und Leuchtkraft. Diese Wesen stehen in unterschiedlichen Distanzen zueinander in Beziehung, die einen näher, die anderen weiter voneinander entfernt. Und doch sind alle zusammen, sich unterschiedlich zugewandt der Gruppe zugehörig ohne sich zu verlieren. Nähe und Distanz sind veränderbar und selbstbestimmt. Auch der Abstand zum Geschehen bestimmt unseren Eindruck. Je weiter wir bei der Betrachtung des Ganzen entfernt sind, desto mehr scheinen sich die Wesen zu gleichen. Je näher und tiefer wir in das Geschehen eintauchen, desto mehr Vielfalt und Einzigartigkeit zeigt sich. Bein Nähern werden wir Teil des Ganzen und erleben die feinen Nuancen.
Geschichten, Innenleben, Wissen, Erfahrungen und Gefühlen. Die Wesen scheinen in ihrer Welt zu schweben und von ihr getragen zu werden. Sie haben Raum, bewegen sich, dehnen sich aus, ziehen sich zusammen. Positionen verändern, tauschen. Bewegung, Entwicklung, Lebendigkeit. Unterschiedliche Geschichten, Meinungen, Wahrnehmungen. A story about the arrival.
In my installation there are colourful flying colourful creations which are symbols for longings, attentions, hope and anticaption...beneath just one furniture, a fridge – the door is open, empty.
Desire and satisfaction are not together. The hunger is not satisfied.
„Sattwerden braucht Zeit – eine mögliche Momentaufnahme über das Erleben des Ankommens in einer neuen „Heimat“
Tausende von Menschen beginnen tagtäglich ein neues Leben in einer ihnen fremden Umgebung. Gefühle, wie fremd sein, nicht dazu zu gehören, anzukommen sind ebenso Begleiter dieses Prozesses, wie Erleichterung, Freude, Erlösung.
In meinem Beitrag zum Thema Migration/Integration steht dieser „Zwischenraum“ im Mittelpunkt meiner Auseinandersetzung. Als Ausgangspunkt meiner Arbeit, sehe ich folgende zentrale Fragen:
Wie fühlt sich Neuanfang an? Wie fühlt sich Fremdheit an? Wie kann ich diese inneren Prozesse nach außen sichtbar werden lassen und für einen „Moment“
einfangen?
In meiner Fotoserie...satt werden braucht Zeit...symbolisieren bunte im Raum schwebende Gebilde farbenreich Sehnsüchte, Erwartungen, Hoffnungen und Vorfreude....darunter ein einziges Möbelstück, ein Kühlschrank – die Tür geöffnet, leer.
Wünsche und deren Befriedigung sind getrennt. Der Hunger noch nicht gestillt.

“PLEASE CONTINUE”vol.2 ist ein poetisches gemeinschaftliches Kunstprojekt, zwischen Tuomo Heikkinen und Stefanie Schairer. Jeder von beiden beginnt eine Arbeit und tauscht diese mit dem anderen aus und beendet diese. Dies ist ein Experiment, in welchem es um Kommunikation und Zusammenarbeit geht, ohne sich dabei Regeln zu setzen oder sich verbal über die Weiterführung der Arbeit auszutauschen. Es gibt nur eine Regel: „Mache damit, was du machen möchtest.“
Tuomo lebt in Finnland, Stefanie in Deutschland. Sie haben sich vorher nie gesehen – Austausch und Information erfolgt über das Internet. Das Ergebnis ihrer Zusammenarbeit besteht aus 24 Einzelarbeiten.
“PLEASE CONTINUE”vol.2 is a poetic collaborative art project between the artists Tuomo Heikkinen and Stefanie Schairer. Each starts a painting – switch it – each finish the painting. It`s an experiment about communication and
collaboration without words and rules – but one “do what you would like to do”.
Tuomo is living in Finland, Stefanie is living in Germany. They never saw each other – they communicate and change informations just by internet.
They created during their cooperation twenty-four works.

WHAT TO DO WITH PINK BAGS? - 48 h Neukölln 2010
„What to do with pink bags?“ is an interdisciplinary, poetic and participatory art project, which I have started in 2007 during my shows in Germany and The United States. Since there I am developping and continuing this idea – an ongoing process. I use the same question, but my artificial discussion happens between several contexts. In 2010 I made an installation on a fence at the airport Tempelhof during the art festival „48 hours in Neukölln“, Berlin. To the same time I had a sound installation with answers (Interviews with people) installed in a Coffee Shop in Neukölln. During this festival I collected answers. People could arrange their answers on cards to get part of the whole installation. I am still collecting answers and looking for interesting spaces and showrooms to continue this project. Visitors become part of the whole art project by participating.
